Tibet, with an average height of 4000 meters above sea level, consists of some of the world’s highest peaks. This includes Mt. Everest {8848m}, the highest peak in the world which rises just between the Tibet-Nepal borders. There are 4 other mountains that exceed 8000 meters & 38 peaks which exceed 7000 meters.
Aptly known throughout the world as the ‘roof of the world’, the far spread 3482 km international border touches Nepal, India, Bhutan & Myanmar. Tibet was a hidden sanctuary shrouded in mystery to the Western world for a good many years. This continued till the mid 80s when Tibet was finally opened to outsiders & developed into a prime tourism destination that literally fascinated visitors who entered its borders.
Tibet has many topographical wonders to boast of and is also home to three world class nature reserves which are namely, the Qomolangma {Mt. Everest}, Northern Tibet Changtang and Eastern Tibet Yarlung Zangbo {Tsangpo in Tibetan}. Devotees & culture enthusiasts travel from all over the world to get a glimpse of the Jokhang temple built in the 7th century, the Potala winter palace and Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas of Tibet.
For adventurous travelers, Tibet is a thrilling destination offering both challenges & lasting experiences of a lifetime. Its rough terrain, laden with snowcapped landscapes is still perhaps the most hidden, beautiful & untamed land in the world; a place with vibrant ancient traditions, mysterious but friendly peoples & timeless splendor. Travel in Tibet can sometimes, ironically literally mean ‘adventurous’ where scenes can be thrilling but still remains one of the least developed parts of the universe. Facilities & levels of services down this part of the world are still basic but for those avid travelers willing to accept this, visiting Tibet can be worth every cent you put into your program.
Zenith Adventureswill always go that extra mile to ensure that your journeys to this mystical destination will be as comfortable & enjoyable given the circumstances & also emphasize that traveling to Tibet requires flexibility & the true spirit of adventure. Please keep this in mind when traveling to this awesome country….however, you will take home stories that will be remembered for many a cold winter fireside at home for the generations to come…
