POKHARA - JOMSOM - MUKTINATH TREK

This unforgettable adventure takes you along the trail of an old trading route, an ancient trail used by traders from Nepal and Tibet. You trek past the Kali Gandaki RiverValley wherein lies the deepest gorge in the world and the sacred shrine of Muktinath. Trekking amidst vast spaces and high mountains, remember to walk slowly, to savor the awe inspiring beauty unfolding as you move on….
We begin your trekking adventure from Nayapul, a few hours drive from Pokhara. Following a lush and verdant trail, we reach Ghorepani (meaning horse water in Nepali) , a watering hole for the pack of horses, mules and ponies that carry loads between Pokhara and Jomsom.
Our trek is very lively as we share the trail with packs of mules, horses and ponies decorated with colorful harnesses and bells. We follow the old trading route and enter the Kali Gandaki River Valley, passing en route Ghasa, Larjung and Jomsom. As this is an old trading route, you will find many well kept lodges and tea houses run by Thakkalis (an ethnic community). From Jomsom we get very good views of the Nilgiri peaks and Mt.Dhaulagiri, the sixth highest mountain in the world. Along the way we spot apple orchards (Jomsom is also known as apple country) and traditional houses with beautifully carved wooden doors and windows.

From Jomsom we climb up to an elevation to 3710 metres, to the holy shrine of Muktinath Temple. A major pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, Muktinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu or Avalokiteshwara as the Buddhists call him. There are 108 water spouts behind the temple. The water spouts are fed by water from the melting glaciers.
There are some other very old monasteries in the area with unbelievably great artwork on the walls.

This is an easy trek that can be done any time of the year except during the monsoons [July & August].
