4 Aug 2010Min Bahadur Sherchan, the current world record holder for being the oldest person to climb Mt. Everest was taken into custody for investigation on Wednesday morning.
According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanuman Dhoka he was held in connection with an attempt to swindle a person hailing from Pokhara, Kaski of Rs. 25 lakhs. He was caught after a tip off by a team of four to five conmen who were arrested at Maitighar, Kathmandu. The conmen took his name as they were arrested by the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanuman Dhoka. He has been detained in Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu for further investigation.
The team will be taken to Pokhara for further investigation. Sherchan claimed that he has been in Kathmandu for a month but expressed his readiness to accompany the police to Pokhara for assistance.
Sherchan hailing from Magdi had climbed Mount Everest at the age of 77 on Sunday, May 25, 2008.
